What is biochar?

Our biochar is a highly porous pure carbon structure derived from the thermal transformation of olive biomass.

It acts as an underground micro-reservoir in your soil: it improves soil physics, stores water, and retains nutrients near the roots without degrading over the years.

Biochar Properties

Biochar Properties

A stable sponge that improves fertility, water management, and soil life while sequestering carbon long-term.

(*) Suitable for regenerative and organic agriculture

WATER

SOIL

CLIMATE

ORIGIN

Water Retention and Resilience

Its porous structure stores water, reduces run-off and leaching, and helps crops to become more resilient to drought and extreme heat.

Microbial Activity and Soil Health

Its micropores offer protected habitats for beneficial microorganisms and mycorrhizal fungi, activating and sustaining soil life.

Fertility and Yield

It retains nutrients and releases them gradually; it improves soil chemistry and structure; it can lead to significant increases in productivity, especially in degraded and dry soils.

Pollutant Mitigation

It can absorb pesticides and heavy metals, helping to reduce their mobility and impact on soil and water.

Carbon Sequestration

It increases stable carbon in the soil, reducing CO₂ that would return to the atmosphere and contributing to the decrease in emissions of other gases such as nitrous oxide and methane.

Long-Term Economic Benefit

The carbon it stores remains in the earth for hundreds of years; biochar application has lasting effects and does not behave like a recurring input.

Responsible Origin

Our biochar is obtained from olive pulp and by-products, not from tree felling, avoiding additional pressure on deforestation.

What Makes Us Different?

Our Biochar

What sets us apart?

At Carboliva, biochar is obtained exclusively from olive pulp and pits from olive groves, a local and controlled biomass that ensures a clear origin and consistent composition.

Patented pyrolysis technology

Our own continuous pyrolysis system, developed and patented to adapt to olive pomace drying and olive biomass.

Unique quality raw material

Exclusive use of olive pulp and pits, a local and controlled biomass that ensures a clear origin and constant composition.

First biochar in Spain with EU certification

Biochar backed by key European certifications, which guarantee product quality, safety, and traceability.

The Biochar Manufacturing Process

How Do We Manufacture Our Biochar?

A simple journey through our process, from olive biomass to the final product

1.

Raw Material: Olive Biomass

We start with olive pulp and pits from the oil industry, a traceable and homogeneous biomass.

2.

Continuous Pyrolysis

We apply heat in the absence of oxygen in a reactor designed for pomace, utilizing the gases to produce renewable thermal energy.

PRODUCT CONTROL

Grinding and Granulation

Screening and calibration of the material to obtain the exact particle size for each use.

Packaging and Shipping

Packaging in Big-Bags and sacks ready for distribution and farm logistics.

Certified Quality

100% stabilised, traceable biochar certified with EU registration as a fertiliser.

Biochar use in numbers

Biochar in numbers

A new material, already backed by agronomic, climatic, and industrial data.

+7–24%

production in olive groves

Increase recorded during the first year in traditional olive trees, according to trials by the Soil O-Live project.

Source

−15–35%

chemical fertilisers

Estimate associated with better nutrient retention in the root zone and lower loss through leaching.

Source

+20%

water retention

Irrigation savings recorded in turf and surfaces with high water requirements.
