Industry: The Catalyst for Ecological Transition

Technical olive biomass carbon for industrial decarbonization. We reduce the carbon footprint of large companies by replacing fossil inputs and permanently sequestering carbon to achieve Net Zero.

Carbon Sequestration

Real-World Applications

Carbon Sequestration

Biochar is recognized in scientific literature and IPCC reports as a potential pathway for durable carbon dioxide removal, provided production, stability, and monitoring criteria are met.

Biochar detail under microscope

Measurable Sequestration

Each batch sequesters long-term carbon with verifiable metrics and integrates into carbon neutrality strategies with full traceability and alignment with European carbon removal regulations.

Audited Impact. Up to -2.98 kg CO₂e/kg in olive pits and -2.17 kg CO₂e/kg in olive pulp.

Our Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) demonstrate a net negative impact in manufacturing (A1-A3). We sequester -2.98 kg of CO₂e per kg of product in olive pit biochar and -2.17 kg of CO₂e per kg in olive pulp biochar, drastically reducing the carbon footprint of your supplies.

Real Traceability. ID, QR, and external analyses for each batch.

Each production includes a unique identifier (ID) and a QR code linked to accredited external analyses, including heavy metal and organic pollutant limits according to EBC class. This provides maximum transparency in the volume of CO2 removed and the quality of the associated sink.

Sustainable Materials: Functional Carbon Additives

Carboliva’s olive biochar acts as a technological ingredient in cements, concretes, mortars, and bituminous mixtures. It allows for the integration of stable carbon into materials and the development of infrastructure with a lower environmental impact.

High-durability concretes and mortars.

Dosing low percentages of biochar (between 1% and 5% of cement weight or as a substitute for fine aggregate) refines the internal microstructure and decreases permeability. This improves the mechanical resistance of the final material and extends its useful life.

Green asphalt validated in real projects.

Used as a modifier for bituminous binder or as a replacement for mineral filler, it increases stability and resistance to rutting at high temperatures. This solution has already been successfully tested in joint projects with UPC and the Barcelona City Council to create pavements with a neutral carbon footprint.

Active sinks within the infrastructure itself.

By integrating our biochar into pavements and building structures, the captured carbon is safely encapsulated for decades or centuries within the construction itself. This aligns any civil engineering project with carbon neutrality strategies and European carbon removal (CDR) standards.

Metallurgy and Steel

Green Steel

Metallurgy and Steel: From Coke and Anthracite to Olive Biocarbon

The steel industry faces the critical need to replace fossil coals to produce “green steel.” Our high-purity biochar offers a renewable, high-energy-density alternative to decarbonize the industry in its most demanding thermal and chemical processes.

A bio-based reducing agent:

10–30% substitution in blast furnaces

Typical range for direct replacement of coke and anthracite with biochar in studies and pilots, without loss of metallurgical performance.

Up to 100% in electric arc furnaces (EAF)

Successful industrial cases have completely replaced anthracite with olive biocarbon as an injection carbon or recarburizer, maintaining maximum steel quality and entirely eliminating the use of fossil fuels at that stage.

High fixed carbon and low ash content

Heavy metallurgy demands ultrapure materials. Our range of olive pit biochar provides between 75% and 85% fixed carbon, ensuring the calorific value and reducing capacity necessary to mitigate the industry's environmental impact.
